Abstract

The tensionless limit of string theory has long been an enigmatic regime of the theory. In this talk, I give an overview of the recent developments in understanding tensionless bosonic closed strings in flat space based on the symmetries on the worldsheet which turn out to be the Bondi-Metzner-Sachs (BMS) algebra. After a broad introduction, I will touch upon various new developments, including a closed-to-open string transition, different tensionless vacua, and Rindler physics appearing on the worldsheet.
