Program
ORGANIZERS
Mahesh M Bandi (Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology, Japan ) and Ranjini Bandyopadhyay (RRI, India)
DATE & TIME
07 August 2023 to 25 August 2023
VENUE
Ramanujan Lecture Hall, ICTS Bengaluru

From the food we eat to the shampoo and lotion we use for personal care or a collection of bacteria swimming in constrained environments, soft materials and complex fluids are ubiquitous in our daily life. Despite occupying a myriad of unrelated systems and settings, they share several overlapping properties and behavior. This diversity renders Soft Matter Physics fantastically interdisciplinary, for it borrows tools from various branches of physics, e.g. Dynamical Systems, Fluid Dynamics, Condensed Matter & Statistical Physics etc. and applies them to systems and problems far afield, including but not limited to, Biology, Earth & Atmospheric Science, Engineering, and Food & Cosmetics industry among many others.

The SLM2023 School and Workshop on Soft and Living Matter will attract global experts who will provide pedagogical lectures on a subset of this broad field to students and young researchers. The topics promise to be representative of the breadth of this field, such as Geometry & Mechanics, Collective Phenomena, Suspensions & Particulate Systems, Liquid Crystals, Biological Matter and Non-equilibrium Physics.

Technical seminars during the workshop will allow speakers to share their cutting edge results in emerging areas. Several workshop speakers are early career independent academics and a conscious effort towards diverse representation has been made. Students participating in the school and workshop will have the opportunity to present their work through poster presentations and engage with experts.

We hope to attract a wide participation from India and the world, and trust it will nucleate new friendships, engagements, collaborations, and opportunities.

Eligibility criteria: Registration is open to advanced graduate students, postdocs and researchers/faculty members working in related areas.

ICTS is committed to building an environment that is inclusive, non-discriminatory, and welcoming of diverse individuals. We especially encourage the participation of women and other under-represented groups.
