Abstract
The problem of generation of Tollmien-Scglichting waves generated by a vibrator and with localized heating elements is investigated. The nonlinear receptivity problem based on triple-deck theory is formulated and the linearized initial-value problem solved both analytically as well as numerically. Several new results are obtained including one which demonstrates how Tollmien-Schlichting waves may be cancelled with suitably chosen wall heating profiles.
