ICTS faculty members Manas Kulkarni, Samriddhi Sankar Ray and Vishal Vasan are recipients of the SERB MATRICS Grants.

SERB MATRICS Grants are given by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, for research in theoretical sciences for a period of three years.

Manas Kulkarni’s research is in the field of Condensed-matter and Statistical Physics. The SERB MATRICS grant will support his new project titled ‘Dynamics and spatio-temporal spread of perturbations in integrable models’, which will investigate the nonlinear dynamics, spatial spread and temporal growth (or decay) of perturbations in integrable models and the effect of breaking integrability.

Samriddhi Sankar Ray’s work is in the field of Turbulence, Non-equilibrium Statistical Mechanics, and Fluid Dynamics. The SERB MATRICS grant will support his new project titled ‘Understanding the Origins of Intermittency in Turbulent Flows’, which will look at to examine the role of triadic interactions in the observed non-Gaussian statistics of small-scale structures in turbulent flows.

Vishal Vasan’s research interests include, Partial Differential Equations, Nonlinear waves and Fluid Mechanics. The SERB MATRICS grant will support his new project titled ‘Spectra of differential operators and the unified transform method’. The goal of this project is to develop mathematical tools to reliably obtain spectra of variable-coefficient differential operators, using recent developments in the analysis of PDEs, eventually leading to a numerical method which will benefit researchers in a wide range of mathematical sciences.
