ICTS postdoctoral fellow Prateek Anand has received the best poster award at the annual computational fluid mechanics conference, CompFlu-2024, held at IIT Hyderabad.
Since 2002, the Complex Fluids meeting has brought together academics and industry professionals. The theme for CompFlu-2024, held between 16th and 18th December, was Soft Matter & Beyond. “It is the country’s largest event regarding all things flowing,” added Prof. Rajesh Gopakumar, Centre Director, ICTS-TIFR.
Dr. Prateek Anand is interested in tackling fluid mechanics problems from a fundamental perspective. He studies the motion of anisotropic particles in laminar and turbulent flows. “The research was about characterizing the motion of settling anisotropic particles in turbulent flows,” said Prateek.
“One important motivation for the study was studying the orientation dynamics of ice crystals in Cirrus clouds,” Prateek explained. “This is important because the orientation of the ice crystals determines the amount of sunlight reflected by the Cirrus clouds, which in turn affects the earth-atmosphere radiation budget.”
ICTS congratulates Prateek and wishes him more success in the future.
