The International Centre for Theoretical Sciences of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (ICTS-TIFR), a premier research centre (an Autonomous, Grant-in-Aid Institution of the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India), invites highly motivated and self-driven individuals for the following positions under the projects “Understanding dusty turbulent flows in the atmosphere and the ocean” and “Topology, hydrodynamics, and synchronization: multiscale models for ciliary carpets”.

Designation

Project Associate-I

Project Assistant

Project

Understanding dusty turbulent flows in the atmosphere and the ocean

Topology, hydrodynamics, and synchronization: multiscale models for ciliary carpets

Principal Investigator

Prof. Rama Govindarajan (ICTS-TIFR, Bengaluru)

Prof. Brato Chakrabarti (ICTS-TIFR, Bengaluru)

Scope of the project

Particle-laden flows are ubiquitous, and often such flows are turbulent. There are many open questions in understanding pollutant and volcanic ash dispersal, snow avalanches, cloud flows and sediment transport in rivers; and in improving the efficiency of fertilizer production in industry, or inhaled medicine. The successful candidate will work on developing accurate and efficient numerical solvers for particle-laden flows, and could be involved in fundamental research on this topic.

Candidate with a strong computational background to join the LivingFluids (https://bratochakra.github.io/) group at ICTS, Bengaluru. The position is available to start immediately. Potential research questions may include (but are not limited to) particle transport in complex flows, particle transport in intracellular flows, ciliary mechanics, dynamics of active polymers, or fluid-structure interactions.
