Abstract:
This talk will provide a brief overview of the history of the concept of "time," tracing its evolution from antiquity to the present day. We will explore how revolutions in physics have influenced and reshaped our understanding of time, examining the shift from Newtonian physics to Einstein's theory of relativity and the emergence of quantum mechanics.
About the Speaker:
Spenta R. Wadia is the Infosys Homi Bhabha Chair Professor and Founding Director of the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS-TIFR) of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. His research interests are in quantum field theory, statistical physics, string theory, and black hole physics. He is an alumnus of St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, City University of New York, and the University of Chicago.
His recognitions include the World Academy of Science (TWAS) Physics Prize in 2004, the Physics Prize of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics in 1995. He is a Distinguished Alumnus of St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and a member of the Indian National Science Academy, The Indian Academy of Sciences, TWAS and the American Academy of Arts & Sciences (AAA&S)
