Research Interests:
My research is primarily in Low-dimensional Topology and related fields such as Riemannian Geometry and Geometric Group theory. I also work in other areas, especially applications of geometry in the natural sciences. A specific focus of my recent research is the use of holomorphic objects and related constructions, including Heegaard Floer theory, to study the topology and geometry of spaces. This involves the study of Moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces and holomorphic maps (as well as their analogues in terms of laminations) especially using  relations to Teichmuller theory, Mapping class groups, Knot theory, Geometric Topology and String topology.
