PEOPLE Long Term Visiting Students (Former)
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune

I am Susmita Singh, a BS-MS student from IISER Pune. I am doing my MS thesis project here at ICTS in Prof Subhro Bhattacharjee's group. My project is on symmetry protected topological phases and quantum spin liquids.

In the recent years quantum -many body systems have proved to be an exciting field with the discovery of many new electronic phases. Many of these phases cannot be explained within the framework of conventional condensed matter theory, which is very successful in explaining phases like magnets, superconductors, metals, semiconductors etc. These new phases require understanding the non-trivial manifestations of quantum mechanics in many-body systems. Some of the examples are topological phases, quantum Hall effect, quantum spin liquids. The aim of our project is to understand such quantum mechanical manifestations by trying to isolate robust signatures of quantum effects in wave functions of quantum many -body systems.
