A classical music (Hindustani vocal) performance by Shri Jayateerth Mevundi will be held on December 29 2009 at 1830 hrs in the J N Tata Auditorium, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
Shri Jayateerth Mevundi hails from the land of great vocalists of Hindustani classical music, including Pandit Sawai Gandharva, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Dr. Gangubai Hangal, Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur and Pandit Basavraj Rajguru.
Born in 1972, Shri Mevundi is considered to be a torchbearer of the Kirana Gharana. Founded by the legendary Ustad Abdul Karim Khan, the Kirana Gharana is known for its melodious, leisurely pace, and the tenderness and emotional strength of its music.
Among his several awards, Shri Mevundi has received the Kala Kiran Puraskaar (2008) and the Shanmukhananda Sangeet Shiromani Award (2005), the Mewati Gharana Sangeet Gourav Puraskar (2000), and the Pandit Jasraj Gourav Puraskar (1995).
