In this talk, I will introduce the moduli space of marked, complete, Nielsen-convex hyperbolic structures on any surface of negative (but not necessarily finite) Euler characteristic, emphasising the case in which the surface is of infinite type. The marked moduli space reduces to the Teichmüller space in case the surface is of finite type, but it is quite distinct from the Teichmüller space in case the surface is of infinite type. The topology of this marked moduli space has many descriptions, each reminiscent of the Teichmüller space. The natural action of the mapping class group of the surface on this marked moduli space by change of marking is continuous, and the marked moduli space is contractible.
