We will host two open thematic discussions in the second week of the program, which will take off with short warm-up presentations by some of our participants.
1) S-duality: then and now

1.1) Sunil Mukhi: S,T,U dualities: the early days
I will present some reminiscences of the early days of S-duality, starting with the paper of Ashoke Sen, and the works of Witten with Vafa and with Seiberg, on which he lectured extensively in Paris in 1994. Then I will go on to talk about the earliest string theory and M-theory dualities.
1.2) Gautam Mandal: String theory, black holes and some aspects of Ashoke Sen's work
We will briefly describe a few challenges in black hole physics and explain how Sen's work
on dualities and in string theory has led to remarkable progress in quantifying and resolving some of them.
2) AI: a new era for gauge theory?
