National Mathematics Day, celebrated on 22 December in honour of Srinivasa Ramanujan, offers an opportunity to inspire students to explore and enjoy mathematics beyond the classroom. This workshop aims to equip teachers with engaging, ready-to-use activities and resources to celebrate mathematics in their schools. Participants will explore mathematical ideas through paper-based activities, geometric constructions, origami models, patterns, sequences, and proofs without words. They will also discover the mathematics hidden in everyday objects and historical artefacts, from Pringles and high jumps to the Ishango bone and the Plimpton tablet. Stories of mathematical discoveries, including the Königsberg bridges problem, will offer further inspiration for classroom discussions.

The workshop will also introduce resources highlighting Indian contributions to mathematics. Presentations and activity materials will be made available to help teachers adapt these ideas to their classrooms and design their own celebrations.

By combining hands-on exploration, historical stories, and accessible mathematical resources, the workshop seeks to help teachers make National Mathematics Day a joyful occasion that encourages curiosity, creativity, and a positive attitude towards mathematics.
