Probabilistic dynamics of hard-core particles in one dimension have interesting connections with features of ground state and the low energy excitations of quantum symmetry protected topological phases. In this journal club talk I will point out a recent work in this direction https://arxiv.org/pdf/2203.08200.pdf, particularly where they show that in the study of dynamical large deviations of the classical stochastic symmetric simple exclusion process, longtime trajectories with a large enough imbalance between the number hops in even and odd bonds of the lattice belong to distinct symmetry protected topological (SPT) phases.
The talk will introduce the basic concepts and point out the crucial steps which the authors take. The talk will end with observations on potential future studies. (the talk is prepared with inputs from Amit Chatterjee (previously at ICTS)).
