Abstract
We will introduce the notion of a translation surface from the perspectives of Euclidean geometry and complex analysis, and then describe moduli space of translation surfaces, and a natural probability measure on this space, which gives a natural notion of a random translation surface. This talk will be expository, exploring results of Veech, Masur, Masur-Smillie, and more recent results of Athreya-Cheung-Masur.
