Abstract

The mechanism by which the size of an organ is determined remains a mystery despite decades of research by both theoreticians and experimental developmental biologists. Models have been proposed to suggest how size sensing could feedback and regulate growth. Most studies focus on the determination of size of the wing imaginal discs of Drosophila melanogaster. My lab uses the same system and proposes a model by which rate of growth is determined by growth rate dependent negative feedback, without the need for sensing size. I will present the model and the data we have accumulated that supports the model.
